The rise of group fitness classes and what this means for studios

Group training has risen to a whole new level over the last few years with big box gyms, boutique studios, CrossFit, calisthenics and HIIT training all playing a part. Now there are more fitness choices than ever before and the pace of innovation in group exercise is not slowing up.

Why the rise in boutique fitness?

Look to the customer. Individuals crave a unique, personalised experience and are increasingly focused on leading a healthy lifestyle. Hence to engage and excite customers with a diverse range of interests, gyms have to continuously develop and evolve their group fitness class offerings. Nowadays gyms or studios offer a real mix of classes under a single roof – from strength training, kettlebells, HIIT, yoga and TRX to try ensure that there is something for everyone.

Dynamic class schedules, extended studio accessory ranges and heavier weights in the studio means some traditional flooring can suffer from marks and dents and restrict certain movements. This dramatic rise in usage and diversity has presented a need for higher quality flooring in studios that accommodate the range of classes being taught, that can strike the right balance between elasticity and grip, which most classes rely upon.

We wanted to help our customers future-proof their group fitness studios ahead of the next industry trends,” Rafael Más, Product Manager at PAVIGYM”.

In 2016 we launched PAVIGYM MOTION. Specialists in flooring for more than five decades by this point, we’d identified the latest challenge our customers were faced with: finding the right combination of “slip” and “grip” for their mixed group fitness flooring. The R&D Team invested eight months to identify the best possible mix of raw materials for a stronger stance in your suspension training or a seamless sashay in your Zumba with zero drop in quality.

The results.

There are already many studios that have installed Pavigym Motion and are enjoying its versatility and perfect functionality, with spectacular results. One of them is Sprek Trainingssenter from Norway that through the following video shows how they have been able to adapt all the group classes in the same room thanks to the characteristics that the flooring offers.

” We are extremely happy with Pavigym Motion. Our Group X room is a very important centre for us and the feedback from our members has been very positive since install.” Silje Nervik Solberg Training Supervisor at Sprek Trainingssenter.
